jessica-cobbWhat caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
I’ve always wanted to do something involving animals. My opportunity came when we had recently moved to a new state. My husband and I were both working full time jobs and one of our dogs still had to be crated when we weren’t home. Before we moved, my Dad would come over every afternoon and let our dogs out but we didn’t have that anymore and I felt guilty about our youngest dog being cooped up for so long. I searched in our area for someone who offered pet sitting and there was no one in the area that did it professionally or even came up in a Google search! I hated my job at the time, saw the opportunity to create a pet sitting business in an area where they desperately needed one….and it all fell into place!

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
Of course the animals are a big part of why anyone gets into this business and there are so many rewarding parts to it. However, I’ve found that the most satisfying part of what we do is too help assist the owners. I’ve had numerous clients with health issues that have started our services because they could no longer walk or care for their pet as they once did and our services mean everything to them because they are able to meet their pets needs with our assistance. Or clients who haven’t been able to go on a vacation for years because they haven’t felt comfortable enough to leave their pets and are now able to get away, relax and know their pets are safe and happy in our care. These make the biggest impact and remind me that what we’re providing is SO much more than just walking dogs and feeding animals.

What is the most challenging?
The most challenging part of this business is working around X amount of client’s schedules and still trying to find time for a life. One person’s life is very busy and hectic these days, let alone managing upwards of 100 or more changing schedules and plans! Sometimes it is hard to find balance between work and your personal life because this is a very personal business and you don’t want to let anyone down.

dog1Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In 5 years, I would love to see our pet sitting service area expand to the surrounding areas that don’t have many options in the way of professional in home sitters. Beyond that though, I would love to open a boarding facility/dog daycare where dogs could interact and play with one another. Another part of this facility would be a canine activity center. It would be complete with dock diving, lure coursing and other activities that owners and their dogs could participate in as well as the option to have boarding dogs participate in these exercises while staying with us.

What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Oh gosh, how have I lived WITHOUT TTP for so long!? It has made everything so much simpler! It has freed up a lot of time in regards to the administrative side of things and eliminated a lot of separate processes that I had to do beforehand. It has also added a whole other level of professionalism to my business and I constantly get comments and compliments about how impressed they are with the system, how easy it is to use and how great it looks! I truly don’t know how I managed before using the TTP software!

Client Spotlight – Stardust Doggy Care!

stardust_logoOur next Client Spotlight is shining very brightly on Stardust Doggy Care based across the pond in Glasgow, Scotland!  Lisa McCabe is the proprietor of Stardust and her and her team are providing first class care to to dogs (and dog owners!) in the UK.  Offering a multitude of services like doggy daycare, walks and home boarding – all of Stardust Doggy Care’s services are tailored to provide fun and exercise in a relaxed environment.  Be sure to take a look at the Stardust website, like them on Facebook and contact them if you are in need of pet care in the Glasgow area!!

lisa-mccabeWhat caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
I decided to set up my pet care business as I was working within the property industry and although I had an excellent salary and really good job, I was thoroughly miserable and was becoming very jealous of my own dog going out on adventures each day. So, I did all my research and went for it. I wanted to be a business though, here in the UK, the pet care industry is seen as more of a hobby, so I’m trying to change that one dog at a time through Stardust.

angusWhat is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
I love being able to make a difference not only to the lives of the dogs we look after but also to their families. We get so many lovely stories of dogs behaving better or being more outgoing as a result of being with us. There’s also nothing better than a slobbery mud filled dog cuddle!

What is the most challenging?
The challenges we face are really in terms of attitudes towards the industry. Most people don’t fully understand it and have a romantic idea that we just walk fluffy cute dogs on leads in a lovely park but there’s a whole back end business network involved too. Also increasing our prices is always a bit of a challenge as people do not realize the overheads involved and see paying £10 for an hours dog walk as quite expensive, although we know we are worth at least double that! I’d really like to see some change in UK legislation for our industry.

img_1249Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In 5 years, we hope to dominate the UK pet care market, with franchises throughout the country. We also hope to be well established within the U.S and have a range of Stardust products on sale.

What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
TTP is exactly what I had been looking for, it’s now so easy to make and manage our bookings as well as provide feedback to our customers. It’s a one stop shop for us which saves so much time and has reduced my workload by 50%!

Client Spotlight – DPS!

dps-logoWe are super excited to announce our next Client Spotlight!  This one is shining on David’s Pet Service (DPS) and founder David Steinberg.  DPS is based in West Hartford, CT and services clients in the surrounding areas.  DPS has a lofty goal to provide their clients with the most trustworthy and accountable In-Home Pet Service experience ever and based on what their clients say – they exceed expectations!  Their policies are focused on pet safety and home security which maintains their clients peace of mind and their pets health and happiness.  Be sure to check out DPS on their website, like them on Facebook and follow them on Instagram for some of the best pet pictures you can find!

image2What caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
A few years ago, while attending grad school for clinical social work (located in my home town), a few of my childhood friend’s parents told me I had to pet sit their dogs to which I happily obliged. Eventually, a friend said, “Hey, you should make this a business” to which I replied, “Okay, why not!”

David’s Pet Services (DPS) was born. All it took was a business card for many to think of me as “the real deal,” something I found quite humorous. Alas, word got out and within no time I transitioned from a busy pet sitter to a dog walking and pet sitting business owner.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
For me, the greatest gift is connecting with my staff in a way that promotes healthy boundaries and a fun work environment. As a teenager and young adult, I remember witnessing bosses who overcompensated for their ineffectiveness in ways that, among other things, negatively impacted relationships. I’ve always wanted to be a different type of leader; one that pays close attention to the well being of their employees.

image3What is the most challenging?
Puppies. Yes, the most challenging thing for me is … pulling away from the puppies. Oftentimes I want to complete the dog walks and pet sits myself because I love to exercise, play with, and train doggies. I also love shmushing their little faces (I mean come on, who doesn’t love that?).

However, when I take myself away from business managing and marketing, invoices aren’t sent, growth stagnates, etc. I’m like a soon-to-be-retired football player who’s too stubborn to move on from player to coach.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In the next five years, I hope to achieve two goals. First, to be the company which sets the highest standard in pet sitting and dog walking, in terms of effective dog training, customer-friendly policies, and advanced safety procedures. Second, I aim to expand my service area, which is currently a handful of towns surrounding my main hub of West Hartford, Connecticut.

image1What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Every. Single. Thing. I’ll spotlight one example (of so, so many). No longer are the days where throwing my computer through a window sounds more appealing than going through the grueling process of creating invoices on Microsoft Word. Now with TTP, I can sit back and relax knowing that once a client schedules their own services, it’s automatically invoiced too. I no longer have the urge to hurl my PC from my office onto the lawn. Thanks, TTP!

Client Spotlight – From The Paws Up!

logoOur next Client Spotlight is shining on Kristal Luedloff and From The Paws Up.  Knowing firsthand the importance of high quality pet care, Kristal took matters into her own hands and started her company!  Bringing a combination of experience, significant training and a high level of responsibility – Kristal provides an unmatched service for her clients.  Not to mention, she is insured, bonded and knows pet first aid too!  Be sure to take a look at their website and like them on Facebook too!

kristal-luedloffWhat caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
It was the perfect storm. Similar to many, I was tired of corporate politics and wanted to be independent. Next, I live in rural Minnesota and our area didn’t have any options for professional, in-home pet care. I had a relative who took amazing care of my pets/home when I traveled, but wondered what others in our area did? Last, I don’t sit still very well, so an ‘active’ career was very appealing. When I looked at the big picture, all those things combined screamed Professional Pet Sitter at me. And…..obviously, I love animals and have always felt a special bond with them. Professional Pet Sitting was the perfect solution!

cat1What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
The gratitude. Each and every day I receive genuine thank-you’s from my clients. Having my work efforts acknowledged and appreciated means the world to me. My corporate experience didn’t provide that.

What is the most challenging?
Saying No. Sometimes there simply isn’t any more space in the schedule and I have to turn client requests down. I hate thinking about them having to struggle to find alternate, QUALITY care.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I would like to grow to the point where our company requires a small, close-knit team (5 or so staff members) to serve our town and surrounding communities. When people think about pet professionals, I want our company name to be the first that pops into their mind.

dog1What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Overall, we are super happy with the transition to TTP! My staff loves it, I love it, and most importantly, clients love it. TTP’s support staff has ALWAYS been prompt at answering my questions when I first got started. I was (still am!) impressed with their responsiveness. I am also quite pleased with their efforts to continually improve their software. I had a few “wish list” items for them and I have seen a few of those rolled out with their updates. Thank you TTP!

Client Spotlight – Companionship Pet Sitting Services!

Today’s Client Spotlight is shining on Kristin McKay and her team at Companionship Pet Sitting Services.  Based in Hanson, MA – Kristin also services clients in Pembroke, West Hanover, Marshfield and parts on Kingston.  Based on the idea that clients needs are of the utmost importance, Kristin and her team are fully committed to meeting those needs.  Be sure to take a closer look at Companionship Pet Sitting Services’ website and don’t forget to like them on Facebook too!

kristin-mckayWhat caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
I’ve always wanted to work with animals but I wasn’t sure in what capacity. After working in corporate healthcare for over 20 years, I decided to take a break. I decided to start my own Pet Sitting business. And 6 years later here I am! I have never looked back & have zero regrets!

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
Being able to bring a peace of mind to my fur clients’ humans. They treat me as if I am part of their family! Also just taking care of the pets, I have a lot of senior pets and some need very special care. I’m happy I can help make them feel loved and comfortable!

dog1What is the most challenging?
Lots!! Keeping track of scheduling and last minute changes/requests/cancellations!
Also taking care of dogs who are super timid. It takes lots of time and patience, which I love! They eventually learn to trust me and that makes me feel great!  Other people’s dogs, (non clients) in general, who let them roam off leash, or just don’t care if their dog charges at us.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In five years I hope to be able to employ a few more good folks to help walk/take care of pets. I have two of the best walkers/caretakers I could ever have hoped for! And I’m hoping in 5 years to be able to slow my pace a bit for more traveling!

dog2What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
TTP has been a great addition to my business! It’s made keeping track of scheduling between myself and my two employees so easy & organized.  I love being able to keep track of payments, and being able to generate reports to help with accounting and administrative work!  People love that they get notices in their email after the visit is completed and they love being able to pay online!! Which is great for me too! A lot of time saved for me from “chasing down” payments!

Client Spotlight – Paradise For Paws!

paradise-for-paws-logoToday’s Client Spotlight is on Marilyn Bouza and her team at Paradise For Paws!  Based in Lake Worth, FL – Marilyn’s business is founded on the principle that your pets deserve to stay in the comforts of familiar surroundings when you are away!  Locally owners, licensed, bonded, insured and with over 10 years of experience – the team at Paradise For Paws is extremely passionate about what they do and even provide horse care as well!  Be sure to check out their website and like them on Facebook too!

marilynWhat caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
I was frustrated working with a vet and would see them leaving the animals alone all weekend in a cage and someone would just come to walk them and feed them, no time to play or interact. The pets would get sick and the owners at the end had a sick, sad pet. I figured I could do better by having them in their environment and less risk of them getting sick.

paradise-for-paws1What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
I see my clients and their pets happy to come to a home environment and being able to interact with the pets. I can send pics to the clients to show them how well their pets are doing too!

What is the most challenging?
Having pet sitters that are not license or insured.

paradise-for-paws2Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Hopefully growing into a bigger place and having more clients.

What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Given me the freedom of going paperless and tracking my workers to make sure the time the clients are paying for is being fully delivered.

Client Spotlight – Hold My Leash!

hold-my-leash-logoToday’s Client Spotlight is shining on Hold My Leash and their founder – Deborah Guelfi.  Located in the Greater Boston area in Methuen, MA, Deborah and her team pride themselves on setting the standard for professional pet care.  That means maintaining your pets’ routine in their own home and surrounding them with familiar sights and sounds all wrapped up in a flexible, reliable service.  Check Hold My Leash out on their website or Like them on Facebook!

What caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
hold-my-leash3Company layoff and no work available. My plan back then was to just keep busy so I started volunteering at a local shelter and just fell in love with being with the animals. It was the start of great things from there. I went to school for dog training, worked with a few dog rescues and just started using my training skills to help several fosters dogs that I had taken in. I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go but after having a few clients under my belt and I just love walking each day with them so my heart led me into this business.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
Being my own boss. I love having full control and growing this business my way.

What is the most challenging?hold-my-leash1
Most challenging with owning your business is finding a balance between work and home life. I feel fortunate that my business is so busy and there is plenty of work but I find it a challenge to slow down sometimes. This has always been my biggest challenge – I guess you can say I love what I do too much.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I hope to branch out into more towns and just keep growing. I would love to add more services for our clients. We also hope to one day have our own boarding facility.

What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
hold-my-leash2Time To Pet has been amazing. Before using TTP, we were using notebooks for client notes, a planner for schedules and it just didn’t work. I had messages coming in via text, email, voicemail. It just got out of control and I noticed that I just could not relax (always thinking we forgot a client). Once I starting using TTP, my business skyrocketed. It was a total game changer for us. My phone was quiet and I could finally focus and do everything I needed to in one app. Clients love the flexibility of just going on and scheduling their visits and also paying. Honestly could not imagine doing things any other way. TTP has the best customer support and is user friendly for all my clients and my staff I have true peace of mind that walks are completed and invoices paid.

Client Spotlight – Purrfect Paws Pet Nanny!

purrfect-paws-pet-nanny-logoThis week’s Client Spotlight is on Bonnie Lawrence and Purrfect Paws Pet Nanny!  Based in sunny Cape Coral, FL – Bonnie has built her company on the simple principle of treating their client’s pets the same as if their pet parents were home.  That gives their clients peace of mind knowing their four-legged friends are receiving the love and attention they are accustomed to!  Be sure to check out Purrfect Paws Pet Nanny on their website and like them on Facebook too!

purrfect-paws-pet-nanny-image-2What caused you to get into pet sitting?
Animals are my life! I started pet sitting for friends at first. Just seeing how excited the pets got when I arrived made me want to do more pet care so I went to work part time for a pet sitting company which I ended up working full time for. I then started my own business with the blessing of my boss and love every minute of it.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting business?
The most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business is meeting and taking care of so many different breeds of pets. I love what I do and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What is the most challenging?
The most challenging part of owning my own business is the bookkeeping part of it. Not knowing much about taxes and keeping up with all the records is a little challenging.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
purrfect-paws-pet-nanny-image-3In 5 years I would like to expand to cover more area and to have employees that love working with animals as much as I do.

What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Where do I begin. Time To Pet has made my life so much easier when it comes to scheduling, adding new clients and receiving credit card payments. The saving of all the emails that are sent to the clients is great. Having questions answered right away from support and not having to wait 24 hrs or longer is not only amazing; it is also time saving. I can’t imagine using any other software!

Client Spotlight – Happy Tails DC!

Happy Tails DC LogoOur next Client Spotlight is shining on Wendy Dorfman and Happy Tails DC!  Happy Tails DC provides personalized dog walking and pet care services for the residents of N.W. Washington DC.  Not your typical pet care company – Wendy and her team works closely with their clients to provide services that meet each pet’s needs.  They are focused on excellence and professionalism as each staff member undergoes training to ensure they are up to date on the newest issues in the pet care industry.  Check out Happy Tails DC on their website and be sure to like them on Facebook too!

Wendy Dorfman - Happy Tails DCWhat caused you to get into pet sitting?
I was a little lost several years back and getting a dog changed my life. Milo was a great dog, but challenging. I had trouble finding a dog walker who could handle his anxiety and keep up with our training routine. The pet care field at the time lacked a personalized approach, at least in the DC area. I decided to create such a business.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting business?
The pets! I love seeing them everyday. By caring for people’s pets I feel like I contribute to all the great things the humans are doing.  I also love being outside and that even when I have office work to do I can basically do it anywhere.

What is the most challenging?IMG_20160331_113050
Scaling. I’m finally taking the plunge & adding staff. It’s hard to not be involved in every little thing every second, but that’s not how a business successfully grows. We want to keep our brand of personalized service while we scale, which is incredibly difficult. The magic is in the the team we build. Finding quality staff and giving them something worth staying for is the challenge.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Fingers crossed for successful scaling. I see Happy Tails DC doubled in size and sales. I am also hoping we can transition to an employee owned company instead of using independent contractors.

Happy Tails DC - Happy Dog2What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
OMG. The ability to keep all pertinent information in one place is incredible. Eliminating paper files is also great. Having pet care instructions available digitally for whoever is assigned is a huge time saver. If someone needs to know where the client keeps the broom and dustpan, they click, and there it is. Time to Pet saves us hours & ensures smooth runnings in all our day to day activities. Receiving payments online, and having them connected to our invoices, is a game changer for us. The website and app are very user friendly, and the support team replies impressively fast.

Client Spotlight – AlleyCat’s Pet Service!

2016-05-27 14_53_17-AlleyCat's Pet ServiceUp next in our Client Spotlight series is Allison Otero and AlleyCat’s Pet Service!  Located in beautiful and historic Winter Garden, Florida, AlleyCat’s provides pet care in the Winter Garden, Windermere, Ocoee, and Oakland communities.  AlleyCat’s provides a better alternative to boarding in an unfamiliar setting for their clients!  In-home pet care allows Allison’s clients the ability to maintain their pets routine and get the human attention they crave!  Check out the AlleyCat’s website to learn why they are the premier pet service provider for West Orange County and don’t forget to like them on Facebook as well!

Allison OteroWhat caused you to get into pet sitting?
I have been caring for animals for my family and friends ever since I can remember and after being laid off in the summer of 2011, I thought to myself, “Why not make a business doing what I love.” There are very few jobs that I can think of where I can spend all day being around animals and get exercise as well! It was a no-brainer.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting business?
Outside of the obvious perks like being outside most days walking dogs, wearing sneakers instead of heels, and receiving the unconditional love that most animals provide – knowing that we provide a service that allows people to visit family and friends during holidays and important events. I once had a client say to me, “I haven’t taken a vacation in four years because I never felt comfortable leaving my dog in a boarding facility. Now that we have you and your services, we are totally at ease traveling because we know our dog is receiving the best care possible in his own home.” That filled me with so much joy and purpose…that one compliment carried me through many hard times!

dogWhat is the most challenging?
While there are many unexpected challenges in the animal care industry, my biggest is actually positive and challenging/negative at the same time. Sometimes, we care for animals even better than their own humans do. This is a positive because we know that while the animals are in our care, they are happier and healthier. It’s challenging because while the animals are not being neglected or abused by their owners, we know that when their humans come home, their level of care will decline. While challenging, these occasions also provide learning opportunities for our human clients; they see how we have done things and how much happier their animals are and, in turn, change how they do things!

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In five years, I hope to have doubled or tripled my client base as well as the number of sitters that I employ and sub-contract with. Also, I would love to offer an even larger menu of services such as: grooming, training, and food/supply retail services.

kittyWhat has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Time to Pet (TTP) has been a HUGE time saver for me especially in the scheduling and invoicing areas. I used to have a tedious, two-step process of putting pet visits on my calendar and then having to manually create an invoice to reflect those visits. TTP not only saves me time by automatically creating my invoices directly from the scheduler, but also ensures that there are no missed visits. Prior to using TTP, there were two instances where I created an invoice before I put the visits on the calendar and I almost missed those visits (one of our worst fears as pet sitters!) – with TTP, you HAVE to put the visits on the schedule or no invoice is created. Viola!!! No more missed visits!!
